Pete, aka DJ Fab Sabs, started his career hosting a punk rock radio show during university, dancing in the mosh pit at local gigs and playing all the meanest rock tunes. So how the hell did he end up spinning the decks at Volume? “Well, a punk rock gig and Volume are pretty similar,” he says. “In both environments you have a lot of dudes dancing their nuts off in close proximity”.
He’s played everything from jazz to hip-hop, and faced some daunting DJ experiences, including a warehouse “Arabian Nights” rave and a gig in China where they postered a two-storey high picture of his face on the side of the club. “But nothing scared me more than my first gig at Volume, where it was pretty clear how much people cared about the music”.
Playing a punkish take on queer dance favourites, Pete loves to plunge whole-heartedly into the party. “I wanna see you rocking the house, ‘cause that’s what I’ll be doing”, he says. And if you see him at Volume, feel free to say hi, suggest some tunes, and of course, buy him a drink. “I’ll have anything – except a slippery nipple – it’s the sickest drink in existence”.
